UX/ UI DESIGN, Strategy & Project Prioritization
Local Secrets is a mobile app that brings the community together around common interests. It is a community of city explorers which enables people who visit a city for the first time to receive recommendations from locals and quickly make decisions on what's best to experience in the city.
Out of over 1000 participants, our team won the prize offered by Braintree by PayPal for the most innovative integration of Braintree's SKDs.
Abundance of choice makes it hard for people to decide. When visiting a city for the first time, and have less than a day to explore it, searching for things to do, can be overwhelming, and time-consuming. There is an abundance of choice, and it is very time consuming to make a decision.
Make choosing things to do easier. Simplify the experience.
We designed an app that enables people to quickly find a top recommendation from a local. We made it as simple as possible. You search based on your interests, and receive one recommendation that matches your interests best. Less choices allow you to make faster decisions. If you like the experience after visiting that place, you can say thanks to the person who recommended you, by simply making a donation.
The app helps you save time allowing you to quickly find the closest places near you, frequented by a local. See the city through the eyes of a local, in a way that nobody else could present it to you.
Our goal was to focus on solving the problem by delivering a functional working product by the end of the hackathon (in only 24 hours). So one of the biggest constraints we had to work with was lack of time. We had to make decisions quickly, skip through wireframes, and jump from sketches to designing HI-FI prototypes, doing quick usability tests, and prototype iteration.
Part of the hackathon challenge was to integrate various APIs in our app, and based on the limitations we experienced with them, we had to make decisions which apps we were able to integrate successfully in such a short period of time. We chose to work with: HERE API, and Braintree APIs, Twillo, and Domain.com.
- Created a functional app and managed to get the UI on top of the app in 24 hours. Managed to get in app functionality like search for location, payments, map display.
Excellent team collaboration optimizing towards goals and solving user's problem, even though it was the first time working together, we managed to work together pretty well.
Strong project prioritization. We had too many APIs to incorporate in only 24 hours, so we had to make decisions on what to use, and how much time to spend on it.
Integrated four API’s: HERE, Braintree, Twillo, and domain.com
API in-depth knowledge. We had a great time learning the new APIs and their functionality. We also struggled a bit with some other APIs, but manage to make it work for most.
Out of over 1000 participants, our team won $5000 and tickets to the Tech Crunch Conference for the most innovative integration of Braintree's SDKs sponsored by BrainTree's (by PayPal).
Make better decisions using data. The app is designed to have a human curated resource that is unlike anything else currently available. We will continue to test different monetization models based on metrics.
Integrate messaging option to chat with top local influencers. We live in the era of real-time, social engagement. If you are a travel or hospitality brand, you want to meet your customer right when he is where he is making a decision. As an opportunity for Local Secrets, we see that brands can promote their products genuinely through the voice of locals from the Local Secrets community.
